41e Film Fest Gent 2014

The 41st edition of Film Fest Gent (14 to 25 October 2014) opens with The Loft, the American remake of De Loft, directed by Erik van Looy. The festival closes with Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman.

This year, the festival is all about French cinema, with Catherine Deneuve as the poster image of this edition. This year there is a new section entirely dedicated to recent French films by Vincent Macaigne (Tonnerre and Tristesse Club) Laurent Cantet, Bruno Dumont and François Ozon and even the first film in 3D by veteran and legendary innovator Jean-Luc Godard.

The Caermersklooster is hosting an exhibition about Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini. Consequently, the recently restored version of his La Dolce Vita will be shown at the festival. Besides the expo, there are several film screenings, an educational project and a concert dedicated to the director. The concert will be hung up on Nino Rota's oeuvre and will feature works from Fellini's films as well as Francis Ford Coppola, Franco Zeffirelli and Luchino Visconti.

This year's World Soundtrack Awards once again features a lot of notable names. Cliff Martinez, the ex-drummer of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, who currently works as a film composer, is the central guest. The Lifetime Achievement Award goes to composer Francis Lai and Flemish pianist and composer Jef Neve is also a guest.
