James Horner Tribute Concert

WSA Film & Music
Everyone remembers the moment when Jack and Rose share a moment at the prow of the Titanic, or when Jake Sully first lands on Pandora in Avatar. Thanks to the music of the late James Horner, these iconic moments are etched in our memories. To celebrate the life and work of this legendary composer, Film Fest Gent presents the James Horner Tribute Concert on 17 October.

In the mammoth blockbuster Titanic, Céline Dion sings her way into our hearts. But as wondrous as Dion's voice is the music of composer James Horner. Whatever the year you were born in, it's hard not to be captivated by Horner's glorious scores for Hollywood classics like Titanic, Braveheart, and Avatar.

James Horner's road to the pantheon of great film composers went along both epics and little gems which he elevated to astronomical heights. Standouts are his collaborations with directors James Cameron (Aliens, Titanic, Avatar), Ron Howard (Cocoon, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind), and Jean-Jacques Annaud (The Name of the Rose, Enemy at the Gates). In 1998, the classically trained composer won two Academy Awards for his sumptuous Titanic score and the included smash hit "My Heart Will Go On". Throughout his career, Horner earned four nomination for the World Soundtrack Awards.

Experience the magic of James Horner's timeless music on 17 October in Muziekcentrum De Bijloke. Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé, will perform a selection of Horner's repertoire, curated by longtime colleague and friend Simon Franglen, who collaborated extensively with the Oscar-winning composer. Following the passing of his mentor in 2015, Franglen completed Horner's score for The Magnificent Seven and went on to compose the score for Avatar: The Way of Water, for which he won the Discovery of the Year Award at the 2023 World Soundtrack Awards.
