Director Raoul Servais Composer Lucien Goethals Cast Marq Rawls, Mimecentrum
10' - 2001 - Fantasy, Short
This short film tells the story of seven nameless individuals, prisoners of a system and/or of themselves. They are wandering about in a crackled and blistering landscape. One of them takes the risk to look up for watching the only light source. Is it a sign of Freedom? Is it Salvation? And where are these prisoners?
The director used live action film sequences with actor Marc Rawls and members of the Antwerp Mime-Centre and manipulated them with the computer.
It has become a film with many hidden meanings; the simplicity it reflects is deceptive. It is such films French critics write philosophical treatises about. Concerning contents, Servais continues to embroider on his favourite theme. The human being as a slave doesn’t fit in his world view. He warns against every form of suppression. Don’t be afraid to throw off your chains, is his silent message.
