Eriksson (Michael J. Fox), a young infantryman, arrives in Vietnam and is assigned to a unit filled with veterans. They've been in combat, on and off, for months and Sergeant Meserve (Sean Penn) is a shorttimer with less than a month to go before he can return home. On enight Meserve involves his men in a plan to kidnap a young woman, whho will be brought along on a mission to service the sexual needs of all five men. Eriksson refuses to participate in the rape (and murder) and his testimony brings the others eventually to a military court-martial and prison sentences.
