Amy is an artificial life researcher obsessed with the brilliant, daring and promiscuous daughter of the poet Lord Byron, Ada Byron King, Countess of Lovelace. Known as “The Enchantress of Numbers”, Ada not only predicted the possibilities of artificial intelligence but also the digital revolution that happened 144 years after her death. Amy's speciality is genetic memory. To help her retrieve information from the past, she creates two digital cyberpets: Codsdog, modelled after her real dog, and Charlene, modelled after the Victorian bird mathematician Charles Babbage gave to Ada. Amy's goal is to enable Charlene to access scenes from Ada's life, such as her meetings with Babbage and the relationship she had with her mother.
