Crisis in Lebanon. This time not a film about the explosion in the port, but about the toxic pollution in Beirut. Pollution from which there is no escape, even if you build a paradise outside the city.
The free-spirited Badri family escapes the toxic pollution and social unrest of Beirut by seeking refuge in a utopic mountain home they've devoted years to building for themselves. Without warning, the government begins construction of a garbage landfill right outside their fence, bringing the trash and corruption of a whole country to their doorstep.
“A family’s attempts to escape the filth of Beirut go awry when the garbage follows them to their doorstep. Situated in a dystopian near future indistinguishable from the present, the film’s setting is less a space for imagination than for cynicism: The more things change, the more they stay the same.” - The New York Times
