Dance of the Heron draws the crisis in the mariage of Edward and Elena, which reaches its climax during a summer holiday at the Adriatic coast. At first, Edward refuses every approach. Hij sits around stubbornly and silently in his dark suit and out of the sun, trying to get over his wife's infidelity. Only briefly before had she betrayed him with a sailor. Furthermore, he is haunted by memories of his youth, when he had to witness his parents' erotic dressing parties. He feels no inclination to join the other guests' imitation of the mating dance of the heron at the hotel. The thought of suicide is constantly on his mind...
