Paul Anderson has been blind for twenty years. On eday he consents to undergo the famous Strampelli-operation. Paul's operated eye functions but his mind is unable to interpret the different visual stimuli. The formerly well-balanced blind young man resembles a mentally handicapped person. He is plunged in the primary visual stage of a newborn who has to "learn to see." He desperately tries to discover the innumerable things and being of the whole creation "one by one," an endless exploration fro which a child needs his entire youth...
