Gloria is a family matriarch who guides the destiny of her two sons. Oscar, the elder son, is marrying Ana, a beautiful girl who loves Juan, the handsome younger son. Juan has impregnated Angela, a poor relative whose anti-Franco father has died and who has come to live with her aunt and family. The two brothers don't get along and Juan leaves home. Angela's son, Juanito, is born and Gloria puts pressure on her to deliver the boy into the care of the family. She also pleads with Angela to marry Juan, so that their son will be legitimized and will become heir to her enormous garden, but Angela refuses. The impasse is resolved one fateful, magic night.
