With his latest satire, Romanian master provocateur Radu Jude gives his uncompromising reflection on our toxic, oppressive work culture. High expectations are justified for Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World, a postcard straight out of Absurdistan and winner of the Special Jury Prize at Locarno.
Loyal festival-goers know Romanian director Radu Jude loves long titles, literary quotes, pop-cultural references, harsh anecdotes and ditto jokes, with a hint of vulgarity. It is no different with Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World, which won Jude the Special Jury Prize at the Locarno Film Festival. We follow Angela, an overworked and underpaid production assistant who has to drive half of Bucharest for testimonials in a corporate film about security measures. With razor-sharp humour and a clear-cut view, Jude fillets the dominant work culture of our modern society. Leave it to the master satirist to make political cinema extremely exciting! Patient viewers will be rewarded with, among other things, the return of one of the world's most hated filmmakers and a 40-minute epilogue.
“Radu Jude’s marvelous satire skewers a range of modern absurdities. Toxic masculinity, the gig economy, and are all fair game in this imaginative follow-up to Bad Luck Banging or Looney Porn. [...] Jude blends absurdist humor with keen social integrity.” - IndieWire
