This film represents a return to feature direction for Isasi. It is a kind of film noir or even Western which kicks off an unidentified corpse in the wilds of Spain back in the fifties. It's a critique of a small-minded backward society which although local has, I think, universa! appeal. The corpse is found leaning against the fountain in the main square of Bocentellas, a village in the 'Region'. The villagers awaiting the arrival of the judge ask help and advise from captain Medina. The arrival of the Judge and the subsequent removal of the corpse round off a circle of a complex plot that got started a few weeks earlier with the escape from Fort San Mamud by two of the soldiers. The mysterieus presence of the Colonel, dubieus economie interests and the involvement of two whores are some of the implements shaping this thriller which only at the last moment gives full sense to the plot.
