This film is the first feature length production from director Kanji Nakajima. The film, vivid with the tranquil images of an abandoned steel mill strewn with rusting iron, centers on the discourse between an old painter and a young girl and the interaction between a young woman and a youth. As a college student, Nakajima made a short film titled Fe, Dreams of Fish. After completing this short feature he continued to develop and perfect the theme in a longer film, which he now brings to the screen as Fe. The work was first intended as a graduation thesis, but as the image grew and matured into this completed work, it was deemed worthy -not solely by stint of being three years work by students -of being released as a feature film.
