Jackson, Mississippi, 1963. Arriving at his family home, civil rights activist Medgar Evers is gunned down by a racist assassin, Byron De La Beckwith. The police soon arrest Beckwith as a suspect, but two trials come to nothing before all-white juries. In 1989, a local newspaper uncovers evidence of jury tampering in the Evers case. The DA's office, under pressure from Evers' widow Myrlie, reopens the case and assigns assistant DA Bobby DeLaughter. His wife Dixie, daughter of the original judge, doesn't want him to take the case. But Bobby is soon confinced that Beckwith is guilty and he assures a sceptical Mrs Evers that he will pursue the case. A film based on the real trial for the murder on Medgar Evers that took place in 1994.
