Using Mitch and Murray's real estate operation as his setting, Marne! demonstrates the ruthlessness, competition and conflict of today's business organizations. The men need leads, telephone numbers of potential clients, to do their work. To gel the good leads, they have to close a sale. To close, they need the good leads. This dilemma is further emphasized by a company contest in which the winner will receive a Cadillac and the losers will gel fired. This situation creates a climate of desperation which is so extreme, it forces one man to steal the leads from the other office.
