Good One

A teenage girl ends up alone with her father and his old mate on a three-day camping trip. Worse, the two middle-aged divorced men constantly cry out about their failures, shortcomings and disappointments. Moreover, their personalities clash, as one is over-organised and the other is just an inept funnyman. It's an awkward trip for seventeen-year-old Sam. Despite its premise and title, Good One isn't a joke in any way, but rather a delicate portrait of a young woman on the threshold of adulthood, caught between male egos and her role as a good daughter. Between the lines of dialogue quietly speaks a strong sense of unease. This feature-length debut by American screenwriter, director and producer India Donaldson is made with few resources, but with all the more care, heralding her breakthrough and the one of lead actor Lily Collias.
