A gut-punch of a documentary about the past years in Putin's Russia, a country that has seemingly given up on its youth. A heartbreaking debut.
Marusya is 16 and, like many Russian teenagers, is determined to end her life. Then she meets her soulmate in another millennial, Kimi. They spend a decade filming the euphoria and anxiety, the happiness and misery of their youth, muzzled by a violent and autocratic regime in the midst of a “depressed Russia”. This film is a cry from the heart, a tribute to an entire silenced generation.
“For anyone currently wondering about the condition of nonconformist youth in Russia this film makes a fascinating watch – although the picture it presents is more than a little desolate. This documentary memoir cum love letter is moving, harrowing and, despite everything, hopeful; above all, it is fearsomely candid.” - Screen Daily
