German veteran director Andreas Dresen's In Liebe, Eure Hilde serves a humanist and affecting story of courage and perseverance. The Hilde in question is Hilde Coppi who, together with her husband Hans, joins the resistance against the Nazi regime during World War II. But they pay a heave price for it.
The Red Orchestra is a resistance movement in Nazi Germany. Two members of this loose group are Hilde and Hans Coppi, driven by a shared belief in communism. But their activities, although not all that disturbing - posting anti-Nazi slogans or listening to illegal Russian radio broadcasts - do not go unnoticed and in September 1942 they are arrested, when Hilde is pregnant. In Liebe, Eure Hilde chronicles life in prison (interrogations, childbirth...) and combines these often heartbreaking scenes with joyous flashbacks that burst with lust for life and document the blossoming love between the couple. Director Andreas Dresen (Halbe Treppe, Cloud 9) and screenwriter Laila Stieler portray two committed young people who believe that love is stranger than hate.
