When a teenage girl is brutally murdered and her body dumped in a small town in northern Norway, the local police decide that the case is beyond their limited means and they call in help from Oslo. Jonas Engström, a Swedish homicide detective working in Oslo, and his aging partner, are dispatched to conduct the investigation. They quickly realise why the local police were so hesitant. The killer had methodically cleaned up the scene of the crime, even washing the victim's hair and getting rid of all her clothes. The locals treat him as a kind of superstar cop, but Engström, who has been under stress in Oslo, finds this case getting on his nerves. The viciousness of the crime and the difficult local conditions begin affecting his professionalism.
