The action takes place in 117th century Bulgaria. Maria, a four- year old girl becomes a witness for her mother’s rape and murder. The rapists force her and her father to watch the act of violence. The little girl is deeply shocked and looses the will to speak for years. Father and daughter retreat high up in the mountains. Obsessed with revenge, the father cuts Maria’s hair and dresses her as a boy. For ten years he trains her to kill. The speechless girl grows up unaware of moral taboos of society and religion.
