Kvarteret korpen (Raven's End)

Anders is a young factory worker with aspirations as a novelist. His father, a failed underwear salesman, steeps himself in alcohol. His mother is despondent. She scrubs and washes to bolster the family income. Anders writes assiduously. A Stockholm publisher asks him to come and see him, but he returns home disappointed. His novel has been rejected. He becomes involved with a local girl who soon gets pregnant. Galvanised by the prospect of a horrible marriage, Anders at last plucks up enough courage to leave Raven's End.
