La Vraie Nature de Bernadette

Anticipating An Unmarried Woman and Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore by several years, the film follows the travails of an exasperated urban housewife who ditches her Montreal marriage and apartment in order to live on a farm with her son. Once there, Bernadette naively assumes the role of earth mother and spiritual saviour to the assorted roughnecks who live nearby, and she is soon exploited, in the manner of Bunuel's Viridiana, by those who would take her favours.
