Late Night with the Devil

Late Night with the Devil directed by Australian brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes, proves that 'found footage' films can still offer originality. They unveil the so-called never-before-seen last footage of a doomed late-night talk show from 1977. In the cutthroat battle for ratings, host Jack Delroy (cult actor David Dastmalchian in a well-deserved leading role) goes all out with a Halloween special. Guests include a clairvoyant, a self-important hypnotist, the author of the parapsychological book Conversations with the Devil, and her potentially possessed study subject. The cleverly staged behind-the-scenes look sardonically winks at the collective trance of late-night TV and America's morbid fascination with the occult, sandwiched between commercials. The seventies atmosphere is spot-on down to the smallest details, and the special effects are devilishly good.
