Germany at the turn of the century. Strange things are going on in an idyllic harbour town. Children disappear without a trace. Death - in the form of a man dressed in black - seems to plague this romantic area. Little Laurin, who lives with her grandmother in a remote house in the midst of a forest, is haunted by gloomy dreams and hallucinations. The same bizarre, fantastic images recur: a man heaving a sack through the woods : a lone wolf-like dog that lives in the ruins of a fermer castle; children drumming in fear against the closed shutters and windows. All these things combine to form a terrible mosaic for Laurin. With the aid of visionary powers, she is able to unravel the secret,... but in doing so, puts her own life at risk. (pressbook)
