Steevyshady, an extravagant YouTuber (real-life YouTuber-singer Bilal Hassani), celebrates the birth of pop diva Mimi Madamour fifty years earlier, looking back on her turbulent love affair with punk Billie Kohler. Director Alexis Langlois describes his feature debut Les Reines du drame, written with self-proclaimed soulmate Carlotta Coco, as a comic, queer, and musical melodrama about the impossibility of choosing. Langlois doesn't shy away from gloriously over-emphasising his inspirations: from music icons like Britney Spears to musicals by directors such as Jacques Demy. Fueled by cult and pop culture, this Franco-Belgian co-production embraces flashy nillies aesthetics and the flamboyant kitsch-to-art of filmmakers Bertrand Mandico and Gregg Araki, resulting in a heartfelt, irresistible ode to drama queens. Song lyrics like "I've fisted you to the heart" actually sound romantic here!
