Like Father

A mining community in East Durham. The oldest residents are ferociously opposed to the imminent redevelopment that will displace them and bulldoze their gardens and pigeon lofts. Forty-year-old Joe Elliott, an ex-miner and now a trumpet player and club singer, is haunted by flashbacks of his miner father disapproving of his artistic learnings. But 70-year-old dad Arthur, whose life in the pit gave him a strong sense of identity and pride, has a secret reason for resenting music. Joe’s 10-year-old son Michael, who’s living with the pit village folklore and the wreckage of the coal industry, grapples with freshly minted demons of his own as his parents’ marriage breaks up.
