Los Santos Inocentes (The Holy Innocents)

The story concerns a wretched, impove­rished family working on the estate of an aristocratic family in the Extremadura in the sixties. Each of the members of the poor family is spotlighted for a part of the film, but the stories are interlocking and at the end provide a coherent narrative. There is the pater familias, a pathetic labourer brilliantly played by Alfredo Landa, whose main purpose in life seems to be allaying the capricious ire of his almost feudal employers and helping one of them in bird hunting parties.
