Manhattan by Numbers

George Murphy is young, well-educated, talented and unemployed. A respected newspaper writer, he becomes a statistic when the paper he works for "downsizes". All his attempts to find a new job fail. Desperately he has sold everything that he can to pay the rent of the apartment. But now George has to raise $1,200 or else lose it. He tries to contact his old friend and farmer co-worker, the enigmatic Tom Ryan. The search for money becomes a search for Tom. Who is Tom? What has happened to him, and what will happen to George?
