Bleek Williams is a self-absorbed hom player who leads a jazz quintet on a roll at a Manhattan club called "Beneath the Underdog". Giant, Bleek's never-do-well friend, operates as the band's manager. Bleek has a relationship with two equally beautiful women, Indigo and Clarke, but he considers them distractions rather than essential In his life: music is all that matters. Also overlooked by Bleek Is his sax player Shadow, a restless and ambitious showman who's frustrated by Bleek's domineering style. The cool, aloof Bleek tunes everyone else out so he can accomplish things in the precise, controlled style that suits him.
