“Nerolio” (the word does not exist in Italian - it is an amalgam of “nero”, black, and “petrolio”, oil, which was the title of Pasolini’s last, unfinished novel) does not attempt to be a straightforward biography. Instead, it is a sharply focused work, a look at a few aspects of the artist’s life. It begins with Pasolini visiting a seaside resort looking for your men. It then shifts to a young man who interviews Pasolini as part of his thesis. The film ends with the events leading to Pasolini’s death. All these sections are interrupted by Pasolini’s forceful, controversial ideas on sexuality, the church and modern society.
