This film depicts the life and times of Michel de Nostre Dame (1503-1566). As a Jew he had learned to live in secrecy and caution. As a talented medicine, he toured in southern France to fight the Plague, thus acquiring a solid reputation. Scaliger invited him and initiated him in the forbidden writings of the Kabbalah… Meanwhile, Nostre Dame is haunted by visions and hallucinations and he publishes them as "Prophecies", though Scaliger advises against it. On the run for the Inquisition, he arrives in Arles and later at the court of king Henry ll, whose death he has predicted. The king shortly afterwards dies, fully according to the prediction and Nostre Dame receives the highest protection from Catherine de Medicis, who enables him to spend all his time on his visions.
