"I think it is interesting to understand why in the beginning of the Stalinist period, nobody tried to resist it seriously; why this resistance was limited to talking and nobody dared to act resolutely. Why the revolution lost human values and very soon carne to liquidating the value of human life in general; why intelligent, cultured, educated people were obliged to leave the historie arena giving way to ignorant, uneducated and ruthless advocates of 'revolutionary expedience'.
