Rocky is a Philadelphia club fighter who seems to be going nowhere. But as fate would have it, World Heavyweight Champion Apollo Creed chooses him to be his opponent for the big 4th of July bout. For Creed, the match is little more than an exhibition - he needs his five minutes of glory, but for Rocky it’s his one big moment. While preparing for the fight Rocky romances Adrian, a shy young women who seem to expose the tenderness beneath his tough exterior. Their love blossoms as the fight approaches, giving Rocky even more strength against his brutal adversary. This film launched Sylvester Stallone on international levels. In 1977 the film was given three Oscars: Best Film, Best Director and Best Editing.
