"Breaking up" is a romantic comedy about the different phases which accompany the ending of a relationship: denial, negotiation, anger, and, finally, acceptance. Cabral is married to the much younger Glorinha. Unhappy with their marriage, they embark on a trail separation, which becomes permanent when Glorinha falls for Diogo, an architect of her own age. A now jealous Cabral realizes his mistake and moves heaven and earth to regain Glorinha's love. Close friends of the couple get involved in this process: Ricardo, Glorinha's ex-boyfriend, Maribel, Ricardo's girlfriend, Cabral's daughter, Julia, who also lives through a marriage crisis, and Laura, Cabral's ols friend and confident. All act by impulse, followng the not-always-accurate saying: "Better regret what you've done, than what you've not done."
