During a coffee break, two chimney sweeps each share an unusual experience within their monogamous heterosexual marriages. One tells about a dream, the other about intimate contact. Both will have their views on gender and sexuality deeply challenged. Sex, a disarming feature that covers much more than its title suggests, is the first part of Sex Dreams Love, a trilogy by Norwegian writer and filmmaker Dag Johan Haugerud about identity and the longing for freedom. Sex premiered at the Berlinale, while Love premiered in Venice. Haugerud has an ear for natural dialogue (and the doubt that comes with it) and embeds it in a film that is eloquent yet understated, free-flowing yet thoughtful and defies all clichés of male relationships and midlife crises. Sometimes, the best life advice is given in the most unexpected place - high up on a rooftop.
