Sonatine's world is surrounded by adults, battered by the mounting tensions of an imminent public strike. In their midst, two teenagers, Chantal and Louisette, set out to explore the
shimmering promise of life. Chantal develops an uneasy friendship with the driver of the bus she must take, every Friday evening. Her new-found friendship comes to an abrupt end when the driver is fired. Her friend, Louisette, wants to escape. She hides aboard a cargo ship but, the sailor on watch soon discovers her. Thanks to him, she experiences an all-too fleeting moment of tenderness.
