Squaring the Circle (The Story of Hipgnosis)

"What I love about vinyl is the artwork is the poor man's art collection" says Noel Gallagher in Squaring the Circle. When it comes to the work of Hipgnosis, that's actually not that far from the truth. The duo Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell - later joined by Peter Christopherson - delivered one iconic album cover after another from 1968 to the early 1980s as Hipgnosis. The most famous being Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon. Hipgnosis also worked with Paul McCartney, Led Zeppelin and Peter Gabriel, among others. Only Powell is still alive. Here, he acts as narrator in this new documentary by Dutch director Anton Corbijn. The interviews - many musicians agreed to take part - are filmed in Corbijn's signature high-contrast black-and-whit. The covers, however, dazzle with their vibrant colours.
