As one of the few female musicians who sang openly about sex from the start of her career, Canadian feminist artist Peaches is an irresistible punk icon who is still cutting down gender norms. Following her 2022 tour celebrating the anniversary of her transformative album The Teaches of Peaches, this illuminating documentary is an intimate look in a performer's past and present.
In 2000, Berlin-based Canadian musician Peaches became an overnight cult heroine thanks to her album The Teaches of Peaches. Her NSFW lyrics ("Fuck the Pain Away", "Suck and Let Go") are accompanied by an infectious mix of new wave, hip-hop, and electro noise. In 2022, she goes on tour to celebrate the album's twentieth anniversary. From preparation to the energetic final concerts, directors Philipp Fussenegger and Judy Landkammer have the camera at the ready, interweaving concert footage with the story of how the transformative album came about. Chilly Gonzales and Feist are only two of the friends looking back. Thanks to the mix of archival and newly shot material, Teaches of Peaches is a documentary that perfectly captures Peaches' feminist punk mentality through both form and content.
