Although known mainly for 'The Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe' number by the railway track, this period romance with a Western setting has many other memorable songs by Johnny Mercer and Harry Warren, including a wistful, nostalgic number for the three main girls. Judy Garland is in her most vigorous mood, well supported by John Hodiak, Ray Bolger and Angela Lansbury, and the production has that rich 40s look, with bright-hued Technicolor and a plethora of period trappings and swirling costumes.
