A fascinating film poem by the unparalleled French filmmaker Pierre Creton.
Filmmaker, farmer, beekeeper. Pierre Creton (Le Bel Été and Va, Toto!) is all three. And the people with whom he works become the landscape of his films. For Un Prince friends and acquaintances each developed a character, after which the Normandy-based filmmaker poured everything into scenes. The polyphonic film, which explores new forms of creation and storytelling with a generous freedom, projects chosen families, new mythologies, and communities. The film lasts 82 minutes but tells the life story of an apprentice who becomes a gardener. The encounters he makes form the milestones of his life, his growth process, and ... his sexuality: he ends up in bed with many mentors who cross his path. But the semi-autobiographical, sexual coming-of-age story is actually a legend in which Kutta, the adopted Indian prince and the titular character, only makes his entrance in a late (and surreal) sex scene.
“Un Prince is a journey in which drugs, lovers, transgression, floral compositions, greenhouses, a hunting lodge recycled into a home, a trip to the Himalayas, beekeeper Moïse, roses and brambles, and, at the end of the night (and possibly from his subconscious) an Indian man, all come unbidden…” - Cineuropa
