Mathias is forty years old. He was born in Flanders but has always spoken French. He is a professor in Roman linguistics in a Flemish town. He recently wrote a film adaptation of Elckerlyc. He has known Anne, a French girl, tor many years. He has taken care of her, but does not realize that he has not made her happy. She is a costume designer and designs the costumes for "Elckerlyc". She is suffering under his dominance. One day, Mathias is forced to face reality. Anne forces him to think about their lives.
