A small dead end street with working-class houses in a large Belgian city. Due to some miscalculations in huge construction works, the inhabitants are in imminent danger of being evicted. They try to organise themselves to face these threatening circumstances while at the same time dealing with egoism and individualism. A writer who has his studio in one of the little houses and witnesses the inhabitants’ efforts to prevent eviction, fantasises on a kind of “brave new world” amongst the people in this cul-de-sac: a world in which freedom, fraternity and equality are no vain terms. Is this attempt at a miniature anarchic society pure fantasy, or would it also work in reality?
