What Did You Dream Last Night, Parajanov? (Was hast du gestern geträumt, Parajanov?)
For ten years, Iranian filmmaker Faraz Fesharaki documented his exchanges with his family and friends. In 2021, Fesharaki was responsible for the photography of Alexander Koberidze's film What Do We See When We Look at the Sky? but his visual talents are used differently in his feature debut, as the film consists largely of recorded video calls. The picture is grainy and the sound lags - the distance between Berlin and Isfahan is not always easy to bridge. And yet, love always wins out over pixelation. The political context of their situation also seeps through. But is it really the distance and technological barriers that complicate their conversations? There may be chatter about movies, dreams and memories but how do you tell your mother you are in love? How do you tell your cousin you miss him?
