Greek filmmaker and composer Alexander 'The Boy' Voulgaris tells the story of four young women who spend a day at a beach. None of them is called Winona.
It appears as if it is an ordinary outing to a remote beach. Four young women and their sheepdog Froso enjoy the warmth of the sun and the chill of the sea. They play, dance and sing. The day gives way to
silly games and girlish banter. The house on the hill looms over them, and they often escape to it, and
ponder about its occupants. Laughter is punctuated by tears. The tears are washed away by make-believe. Until the day comes to a close and they begin to pack their things to leave. Unassumingly
mysterious and deeply nostalgic, Winona holds on to its bittersweet secret till the very end.
“The fifth film by Alexandros Voulgaris is a subtle drama about four magnetic characters on an unspoilt beach. Sofia Kokkali, Anthi Efstratiadou, Iro Bezou and Daphne Patakia are the four actresses able to both give each character a spirit that is well defined and, at the same time, capable of blending well with each other naturally and genuinely. A surprising film, witty and sad, that presents pain in an unusual and suggestive way.” - Cineuropa
