William Richert

Winter Kills

Director William Richert Composer Maurice Jarre Cast Jeff Bridges, John Huston, Anthony Perkins
97' - 1979 - Mystery, Drama, Comedy - Format: DCP - Dialogue: English

Without a doubt, the most wacky conspiracy thriller surrounding the assassination of JFK, with an all-powerful father figure as a bigger-than-life villain. William Richert's crazy debut, now legit cult film, was shelved for far too long and was only later rediscovered as an indispensable, radical contribution to the genre.

Big-star-studded black comedy-thriller in which a frenzied fantasy is staged around JFK's assassination, spawned from the satirical brain of Richard Condon, the author of The Manchurian Candidate. In Winter Kills, Condon goes completely over the top. He stages a Kennedy-like dynasty in which the younger brother (Jeff Bridges) of the assassinated president, hit by a lone killer at the time, discovers that a second gunman was involved. Besides the CIA, the mafia, the Dallas police, the military-industrial complex, an additional conspiracy theory comes into play here: a studio boss allegedly orchestrated the assassination after the suicide of a Marilyn Monroe-like sex bomb. However, it is the pater familias, a supreme, thoroughly depraved tycoon (frenzied starring role by John Huston) who pulls the strings and dominates the Byzantine intrigues. The director of this cult film is the now forgotten William Richert.
