"007 in concert: Flemish talents sing James Bond"

21 Aug 2012
On Thursday 18 and Sunday 21 October the Ghent Film Festival and Belgian TV station, één, are presenting "007 in concert" at 't Kuipke in Ghent. This unique concert will feature Flemish stars and the Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by Dirk Brossé, performing special versions of legendary Bond songs. The concert marks the release of the new James Bond film 'Skyfall' on 26 October, as well as the 50th anniversary of the very first James Bond film 'Dr. No'.
For this concert world-famous Bond songs will be given a makeover. Popular Flemish pop and rock artists, including Natalia, Koen Wauters & Eva Jacobs, Roland & Steven de Bruyn, Jasper Steverlinck, Lady Linn, Sioen, Pieter Embrechts, Noémie Wolfs (Hooverphonic), Barbara Dex, Marie Daulne (Zap Mama), Paul Michiels, Renée, Lola (AKS), August Albert (Kristof van Customs), The Van Jets, Glenn Claes and Styrofoam feat. Leki, will share their personal interpretation of their favourite songs accompanied by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé. Extra artists will be added to the programme at a later stage. "Ghent Film Festival is extremely proud to announce this concert, which is being organised in collaboration with één as a tribute to the most famous icon of modern film history, with the crème de la crème of Flemish rock and pop music performing their versions of songs many generations grew up with," says Artistic Director Patrick Duynslaegher. "During a film festival that highlights the link between film and music a concert featuring songs from the longest film series in history is more than appropriate. As soon as a new Bond film enters the production phase the same questions pop up over and over again: Who's playing Bond? Which actor's going to be the villain? Who's the Bond girl? Which car will Bond drive? And of course: Who will be performing the title track? Since the introduction of John Barry's now well-known Bond theme, the world of secret agent 007 has been inextricably linked to its very own sound, which has undergone all sorts of variations and influences over the decades. Nevertheless, it always sounds familiar and recognisable. The title track immediately thrusts us into the exotic, dangerous, exciting and seductive world of the most famous spy and action hero worldwide. Come and discover how Flemish artists give legendary Bond songs a new twist, from Thunderball to Goldfinger, Surrender, You Only Live Twice, GoldenEye, Licence To Kill, Diamonds Are Forever, Another Way To Die, Tomorrow Never Dies, Die Another Day and many more." Kobe Ilsen will take care of the presentation. And what's more, the concert on Thursday 18 October will be recorded and broadcast on 28 October on één. The 39th edition of the Ghent Film Festival will be held from 9 till 20 October in Kinepolis Gent, Studio Skoop, Sphinx, Vooruit, KASKcinema, Caermersklooster and 't Kuipke.
