37th Ghent Film Festival announces opening film Madly in Love
26 Aug 2010
The opening film of the 37th Ghent Film Festival is director Hilde Van Mieghem's new film, Madly In Love. In this romantic comedy Van Mieghem focuses on the turbulent love lives of four women living together, played by Veerle Dobbelaere, Wine Dierickx, Marie Vinck and Aline Van Hulle. Their male counterparts are Koen De Bouw, Koen De Graeve, Kevin Janssens, Jan Decleir and Huub Stapel.
Madly In Love, a feel-good rom-com zooms in on the turbulent lives of four strong women: teenager Eva, her mother Judith, her aunt Barbara and her older sister Michelle who share a house and who, in their search for 'love, peace and happiness' become entangled in a series of events. First love, serial dating, unquenched lust, affairs, the desire to have a child and finally indestructible old love spice up the somewhat chaotic existence of these four women. They are gorgeous, courageous and intelligent but sometimes even they are clueless. It remains to be seen whether their male antagonists can defuse this cocktail of determination and female hormones...
Hilde Van Mieghem is the 7th Belgian director who has the honour of opening the Ghent Film Festival. Illustrious predecessors include Robbe De Hert, Stijn Coninx, Erik Van Looy and Felix van Groeningen. This is Van Mieghem's third feature film, after The Kiss in 2004 and Love Belongs To Everyone in 2006. Madly In Love was produced by Caviar, with the support of the Flanders Audiovisual Fund, and is distributed by Kinepolis Film Distribution. The film will be in theatres from 8 December 2010.
The 37th Ghent Film Festival will run from 12 until 23 October 2010. In addition to 100 feature films and 30 short films the film festival also presents a special exhibition about Jacques Tati in the Caermersklooster Provincial Cultural Centre, a one-off concert by masterful composer John Barry on 21 October in Kuipke Gent and the 10th World Soundtrack Awards on 23 October in Kuipke Gent.
