Rainy weather?

About the film
In Dimitri Verhulst's absurd comedy Waarom Wettelen? (Why Wettelen?), we meet a group of relatives and friends at the funeral of the deceased Christine. Suddenly, the lost foster son and the notary turn up, saying that Christine wanted to be buried in Wettelen. ‘A typo?’, one of the daughters thinks. No one knows the village but soon the gang sets off for Wettelen with the hearse. They pass Flemish fields, fairground races, empty churches and an old circus. In short, the prettiest and ugliest of Flanders. Along the way, it turns out that no one really knew Christine, or each other. While family secrets are unearthed, we also learn that (fatherly) love turns out to go not only through the stomach, but through the gut.
Dimitri Verhulst, the award-winning author of De Helaasheid der dingen and Problemski Hotel, is making his debut as a film director. In the process he does not lose a shred of his signature humour. Waarom Wettelen? premiered at Film Fest Gent 2024.Practical info
