Leading Spanish actress brings bossa nova to Vooruit
06 Jun 2005
On Thursday, October 13, Victoria Abril, the star of the Spanish screen from Atamé and Kika to name but two, will be giving a unique concert at the Vooruit Arts Centre.
In the Theatre Hall of the Vooruit, Abril will be performing traditional South American dance numbers from Putcheros do Brasil, her debut album with 10 Brazilian classics that she describes as the soundtrack of her youth. The producer of Putcheros do Brasil is Javier Limon, otherwise known for Pacio de Lucia, among others projects.
Victoria Abril is considered one of Spain's greatest actresses. Since her debut in the 1970s, she has acted in over 60 films. She is known as the iconic actress of Madrid-based director Pedro Almodovar and starred in his films Tacones Lejanos, Atamé, La Ley del Deseo and Kika.
Victoria Abril admits that she has had to fight the prejudice against "actresses who sing," but she is very happy with the results. Abril is very clear regarding her sidestep to music, and she has no intention of making it the centre of her career. "Either it will be grandiose or it won't."
The organisers of the Flanders International Film Festival - Ghent and the Vooruit Arts Centre are looking forward to this first time event. For both parties, this unique concert is a good example of successful cooperation. Pre-sales begin on Tuesday the 7th of June. Tickets cost € 22 in presale, € 25 at the door.
