Maurice Jarre guest of honour at the World Soundtrack Awards ceremony of the Fla
The impact of film on music has always been the connecting thread of the Flanders Film Festival. During this 30th edition, music will be highlighted more than ever. The winner of the World Soundtrack Awards in 2001 and 2002, Patrick Doyle, will perform live in Ghent. In the 'Kuipke', Oscar winner Nicola Piovani will round off the festival with some fabulous scores of the Italian movie history.
But we will not forget the Belgian film music: 'Raymond met doek en camera' (Raymond with canvas and camera) will be performed twice in the Handelsbeurs and Hooverphonic will play during the World Soundtrack Awards ceremony.
Ticket sales for the World Soundtrack Awards concert and the closing night with Nicola Piovani start as from July 15th, for the concert of Raymond as from August 19th.
It should be clear to everyone that thanks to its concerts the 30th edition of the Film Festival will be one to remember.
On Friday 10 and Saturday 11 of October the godfather of Flemish rock and roll, Raymond Van Het Groenewoud will perform his movie scores live. Everybody will remember the music from Everybody famous, Brussels by night and Crazy Love. Raymond will undoubtedly set aflame the Handelsbeurs. Both concerts start at 8.15pm sharp. Tickets are available at 20 Euro at the Handelsbeurs as of August 19 (www.handelsbeurs.be - 09 265 91 60).
On Sunday October 12, the festival will organise for the third time running the presentation of the internationally recognized World Soundtrack Awards. This presentation will be followed by a concert of the British Composer Patrick Doyle (Gosford Park, Bridget Jones's Diary, Hamlet, Henry V, Sense and Sensibility)
Patrick Doyle will be joined by coming man Klaus Badelt (Time Machine, The Recruit), also World Soundtrack Discovery of the year 2002 and the Belgian pop group Hooverphonic. Hooverphonic's music was used in films such as Stealing Beauty and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Patrick Doyle meets Hooverphonic will guarantee top class film music. The WSA concert starts at 7.30pm sharp at the Bijloke.
The members of the Academy of the World Soundtrack Awards are composers and representatives of the film music industry from the whole world. The following Awards will be presented during the ceremony : Best Original Soundtrack, Best Original Song, Best Composer and Discovery of the Year. But the audience can vote as well for the World Soundtrack Public Choice Award. If you want to know more about this, go to www.worldsoundtrackawards.com.
During the closing ceremony on October 18, the Italian composer Nicola Piovani will conduct the Italian 'Orchestra Aracoeli'. The result will be an enchanting musical journey through films of the Taviani brothers, Federico Fellini, Nanni Moretti and Roberto Benigni (Ginger e Fred, La Vita รจ Bella, La notte di San Lorenzo, La Stanza del Figlio ...). The concert starts at 8pm sharp at Kuipke.
