Call for young filmmakers: intensive programme ‘creative partnership between director and composer’ at FFG2021
We will invite five young filmmakers to participate alongside composition students in our film music programme together. Interested applicants must also submit a film project in process (still in search of a composer) for the 3rd Character matchmaking event at Film Fest Ghent 2021. This matchmaking project strives to facilitate encounters between film composers and directors who are working on a film project that has yet to find a composer. The event will take place on Friday October 22.
The selected candidates will have access to the festival’s music events (masterclasses, seminars, composer talks, networking events) where they can meet international guests. The candidates will follow this programme together with the students of the International Master in Composition for Screen (InMICS), a joint master’s degree programme dedicated to international students who want to work as composers for audiovisual media. Together with the InMICS students they have the opportunity to get acquainted with the field of film and film music during the InMICS Composers Lab. A festival accreditation will also give access to the festival’s film screenings, which they can do on their own initiative from 11 October onwards.
For the 3rd Character event, the film project must already have received financial support and a composer must not have been chosen yet. The director should submit the scenario or a specific scene. This scenario may be for a short or feature film, for fiction or documentary. The material will be sent to the candidate composers, who will make a few demos based on the vision and expectations of the director. The 3rd Character meetings will take place on Friday 22 October.
Film Fest Ghent offers the selected candidates:
Access to this unique film music industry programme;
Ticket for the concerts Great Greek Composers (Friday 22 October) and 21st World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert (Saturday 23 October);
Overnight stay and breakfast in the historic centre of Ghent, October 20-24
Lunch offered by the Festival (20-23 October)
A full accreditation for the festival (usable from 11 October).
Participants must arrange their own travel to the festival and are responsible for most evening meals and other possible costs.
